Case study · Orchard Operations Suite

From Excel-heavy operations to intuitive apps across the business.

This was not one large system. Core operational record-keeping moved away from Excel, paper and ad-hoc process into focused, task-specific Power Apps — one workflow at a time — with Power Automate handling approvals, routing and handoffs where it mattered.

Operational records depended on Excel and paper

Planning, packing-floor checks, quality inspections, HR requests and expense approvals all ran through spreadsheets, printed forms or email threads. Each process had its own workaround, and none of them gave the business a clear operational view.

One workflow at a time, not one big platform

Each app was designed around the job a specific team performs — a planner, a packing-floor operator, a quality inspector, an HR user or a finance reviewer — rather than forcing every role into one oversized system.

Structured Microsoft 365 data behind simple interfaces

SharePoint and Dataverse hold the structured data behind each app, while Power Automate handles approvals, routing and recurring handoffs so people are not chasing status by email.

The pattern expanded across the business

The same approach — map the real workflow, ship a focused app, automate the handoff — repeated across planning, packing, quality, HR, safety and finance/admin.

Planning

Picking Planner and Fruitlet Forecast bring the weekly harvest schedule and forecast into one planning view instead of a rebuilt spreadsheet every week.
